Less than one generation ago Tauranga was a smallish town 20kms drive from Mount Maunganui, Bethlehem was a separate little village on the way north and Papamoa was motor camp surrounded by a few dinky beaches.
By 2009 the population of Tauranga has more than doubled to over 100,000 people. The city stretches 29kms from the Wairoa Bridge to the end of Papamoa. The harbour bridge built in 1988 is now needing two more lanes added on and we have the biggest export Port in the country.
Tauranga City boasts fine weather; long summers at the beach; over 13,350 businesses; is a boating and fishing mecca; and has a vibrant café and restaurant culture. Plus, we are surrounded by the horticultural richness of the Western Bay, and the Kaimai Ranges which add scenery and interest to our hinterlands.
